How do I know what manufacturers participate in the NFRC Program?
Manufacturers that participate in the NFRC Certification Program will have the NFRC temporary and permanent labels on the window. NFRC has a complete list of all manufacturers that are participants.
Does NFRC sell, fix, or install windows?
No, NFRC administers a third party certification and labeling program to provide the window buyer with verified product information.
Can NFRC recommend a certain manufacturer for the window type that I am looking for?
No, we cannot recommend a specific manufacturer. However, our ratings guarantee that each window was tested the same way, under the same conditions. You can base your window choice on those ratings and how you want your window to perform.
My window does not have a NFRC label on it, but the retailer is saying that it is a NFRC certified window. What should I do?
If you are buying NFRC certified windows you should expect your windows to come with a temporary and permanent NFRC label.
Manufacturers are NOT required to put the temporary labels on their windows. HOWEVER, if the window does not have a sticker on it, it is not considered a certified window (regardless of whether it is certified or not).
Labels CANNOT be e-mailed, faxed, or sent separately from the window. If they are missing, the manufacturer is required to do on-site labeling.
Are there any federal tax incentives for buying energy efficient windows?
No, there are no 2012 federal tax incentives. You can search by state for incentives for renewables and efficiencies.
I removed the labels from my window. How do I get the glue off of the glass?
Use a citrus based cleaner. Just make sure you wipe the residue off with a damp cloth.
How can the installation affect the energy performance of my product?
NFRC performance ratings do not take into account how a window is installed. — you can purchase the best window available, but if it is not installed well it will not perform as well as it could. In order to ensure that the installation is done properly, ask the manufacturer to recommend an installer. Be aware, that in some cases your warranty will not be valid if your windows, doors, or skylights were installed incorrectly by a third party.
My window is NFRC certified and I do not have the temporary label. Is there a way to find out information about the window?
NFRC Participants have their products certified by one of four Inspection Agencies (IA).
Each certified product should have a permanent label provided by their IA. These labels can be found between the panes of glass, the bottom of the sill, and sometimes along the side or top of the product.
Usually the NFRC codes are found on the right hand side of the label (Sample labels found below). Using these codes NFRC can assist you in finding the information you need such as the Manufacturer and product line.
